FAQ

The questions we are asked most often about choosing a department, booking, test results and companions.

If your complaint touches more than one department, the internal medicine clinic is the right starting point. The admissions desk will also direct your visit to the right department, at no extra charge.

Internal medicine, paediatrics and orthopaedics also accept walk-in patients. Other departments require an appointment. The emergency department is open 24 hours a day, every day.

You can book through the call centre, the appointment form on this site or the admissions desk. Requests from the form are reviewed the same day and we call you to agree a time.

Laboratory and imaging results are sent to your clinician digitally. Most routine tests are reported the same day; if interpreting a result needs a separate appointment, you are told so at the first visit.

An anaesthetic assessment is arranged along with the blood tests and imaging that are needed. You should tell your clinician about any medication you take, especially blood thinners. Fasting times are explained when the date is set.

One companion is allowed for inpatients, and this is required for children. Visiting and companion rules differ in intensive care and the delivery suite; admissions can give you the details.
